As we think about all the wonderful things we love about Depil Brazil, we sat down with Depil Brazil’s owner and founder, Andrea Wissing—the brains, arm, aesthetic, and general bada** behind the brand—for a look at how she made her dream an in-demand reality, her advice for budding beauty entrepreneurs, and all the answers to your most curious questions about Depil Brazil’s present and future. Q: That you so much for taking the time for this sit down, Andrea! To start, I think we all would like to know what exactly motivated and inspired you to start Depil Brazil?
A: I was motivated to start Depil Brazil because of the lack of true Brazilian wax experiences available in the US. Once I made the move from Brazil to America, I made several attempts to get a wax with the quality I was used to back home, but instead I only found the paper-based american process, which is more painful and a lot more messy. So, my inspiration came from the need to create a TRUE Brazilian waxing experience in my new home, the US, and combine a traditional approach to waxing, with modern techniques. A concept that has been well received by our community, so I am very pleased with our growth and success!
Q: You were recently named the Top Brazilian Entrepreneur In The U.S.! How do you plan to use being internationally recognized as an entrepreneurial leader to influence others, and how does accolade impact your career?
A: I am very thankful and appreciative of the recognition. It has motivated me to work even harder to elevate my brand, and I am thankful that others can see my passion, and my growth and be influenced to go after their dream. My focus is to support and lead other women as they grow their own businesses, and further their careers in this industry. I have worked in the esthetician world for over 10 years, before that I was a lawyer in Brazil, I know what it means to work hard towards a dream. I hope to use my voice and my platform to help others find their path and achieve their goals. Working alongside other passionate entrepreneurs also helps to empower my own personal success. So it is something I love and look forward to.
Q: From legal professional, to entrepreneur, you’ve developed quite an incredible skillset. If you could be known for one thing in the business world, what would it be?
A: I want people to think of me and think of the positive experience they received at Depil Brazil. We strive to be known as the best. The best wax, The best staff, the best locations, and absolutely the best service. At the end of the day, THAT is what really matters to me. Being able to show up and be exceptionally different from our competition. We want our clients to be amazed with every appointment.
Q: From your experience, what three things do you need to be a successful entrepreneur?
A: You need to have an incredible team (which I do!), tenacity, and a clearly defined goal (which I also have).
Q: What’s one key lesson in leadership you’ve learned along the way?
A: You have to be real! People can detect authenticity. Your people will also follow and respond to honesty and transparency.
Q: You wear a lot of hats, so I am sure you must have a lot of things thrown your way. When that happens, how do you stay motivated when you face obstacles or challenges?
A: It’s my drive and my commitment to my dream that keeps me going. I tell myself that nothing I encounter is bad enough to make me stop moving forward. Even if I have to find new ways of doing things, the challenges are actually all a part of the path I take, learn from, and grow from. It makes me a stronger woman, and a more knowledgeable business owner.
Q: You stay busy, but you also love family time. How do you achieve a balance between your personal and professional life?
A: I LOVE to LIVE, so I respect my personal time, but I am also always ready to be available to my team. Whether that is to solve a problem or provide support. I prioritize my work, but I doesn’t feel like working because I have so much fun doing what I love, with people I care about.
Q: Depil Brazil is ever growing, can you give us an idea what to expect from Depil Brazil in the future?
A: We will definitely keep expanding, but we will never lose our core. We will continue to strive for excellence in experience and results for all of our guests. They are who matter the most to us. So, we will keep our outstanding customer service, and to the delight of our members and guests, we will continue to expand our best selling natural skincare products. We will also continue to invest in our team through exceptional training and mentorship.
Q: Do you have a personal or professional vision statement that you live by?
A: Yes. I believe that you should always do what makes you happy, and with people that makes you happy. I also believe that you should always follow your instincts and never doubt your capacity. We have the strength and determination to achieve our goals.
Q: That’s really great! There may be someone reading this who is looking at starting their own business. What words of advice would you give other aspiring entrepreneurs?
A: Always take care of your employees. To move forward you should never think you have to do it alone, or that you’ve had enough success. It’s important that you continue to look at where you are, plan for where you want to be, and what steps you can take to help your business grow.
