Skincare Resolutions For The New Year (That Are Easy To Stick To)

Do you resolve to have healthier, happier, smoother skin this year? We have the best intentions at the start of a new year. We make it a goal to eat better, exercise more, drink more water, cut down on coffee, get more sleep, even make more time for self-care, and while we start strong, we typically make it halfway through the winter before old habits start to set back in. That’s why this year, we want to make it easy for you to set (and stick to) your resolutions for better, more beautiful looking skin. Even if you haven’t been taking good care of your skin, it’s not too late to start! After a busy holiday season, our skin is wearing the effects of too many late nights, holiday stress, and indulgence in food and alcohol. The start of a new year is the perfect time to hit the ‘reset’ button and help heal, treat and nourish our skin and body inside and out.

The very first thing that should be at the top of your skincare resolution list is to get rid of all of your old and expired (yes, those tubes and bottles have expiry dates) skin care and cosmetics products cluttering your bathroom. When checking your current product inventory be sure to toss out any products that have changed color, smell, or even texture. After you’ve made space for all things new, check out a few of our favorite skin care resolutions that are so good you’ll actually want to stick to them.

Keep Your Wax Schedule

Keeping a consistent wax schedule means enjoying consistent results for longer periods of time between your hair removal sessions. Even during off-season months, like winter, when your body is mostly covered, you still need to set and keep your wax appointments. The reason is simple, as you wax regularly, the hair begins to grow back slower, finer, and thinner. So your skin becomes bare and smooth for longer lengths of time and you don’t have to worry about unsightly, unwanted and embarrassing body hair. So even if you don’t think your hair has grown out enough yet, stick to your schedule.

If you don’t yet have a wax schedule, then give your nearest Depil Brazil Waxing Studio a call and schedule your first appointment, free of charge! Our experienced and trained Wax Pros are available to not only make your face and body feel smooth and beautiful, but also to answer any concerns and questions you have about waxing and skincare. Remember that we have different skin and hair textures, so what works for one may not work for another, so don’t feel embarrassed or ashamed to ask the professionals at Depil.

Apply Sunscreen Every Single Day

Even with a new year, the same remains true – wear your SPF every single day. As you complete your morning skincare routine and prepare to venture outdoors, slather a generous amount of sunscreen to your face, neck, hands, and any exposed area on the body. Even during the months post-summer, your skin is still at risk for sun and UV overexposure. Not only does sunscreen help prevent sunburns and skin cancers, it also helps prevent premature wrinkles and changes in skin texture. Wearing proper sunscreen also ensures your other products are working at maximum efficiency, too. So sunscreen is pretty important and should be a staple step in your daily routine.

Get Your Beauty Sleep

Getting proper sleep is beneficial for your health, mind and body, especially your skin health. Even when your eyes are closed, your body is hard at work to repair and restore itself, skin included. For one, more collagen is produced when you sleep. More collage means no sagging, and the skin is plump, less likely to wrinkle, and appears more youthful. In addition, skin cells regenerate during sleep, meaning the skin can protect and heal itself more effectively, as well as decrease cortisol levels, and activate a series of vital functions that are essential for our well-being. Dehydrated skin, puffy eyes, dark circles, and sallow or ashy complexions are characteristics of a poor night’s rest.

During the night your skin is also more receptive to cosmetic treatments and applications from your nighttime skincare routine. So if you want to feel and look better, get some sleep!

Keep Your Area Clean

This is especially important if you have sensitive skin, or are treating skin conditions. You need to actively keep your bedding and clothing washed and clean for healthy, happy skin. Believe it or not, your pillowcases, cellphones, headbands, and makeup tools are all more prone to carrying bacteria and other airborne allergens that can settle on the surface. Your body temperature changes during the night, so you may find yourself sweating during your sleep, or even if you take a nap during the day, your pillowcase and bedding can carry a build up of oils, dirt, and sweat from daily use. Wash your pillowcases, eye masks, phone screen, headbands, makeup brushes, skincare tools, and anything else that touches your face every week. If you have spare bedding, try to swap your pillowcase a couple times per week.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration is critical to your health and well being, certainly your skin health. Drinking water sounds like a pretty simple task, but the hard part is drinking *enough* water throughout the day, every single day. Water not only aids your skin in cell repair, helping to heal wounds, cuts, and abrasions on the skin, and also reducing the appearance of scars, but water also helps maintain your skin’s elasticity, reducing wrinkles and giving you a more healthy complexion and glow. Dehydration will worsen virtually all health problems as well as exacerbate skincare issues such as acne, eczema, Rosacea, puffiness, dark circles under the eyes, etc. If you struggle to drink more glasses of water during the day, add water hydration to your daily lifestyle. Consume foods that are high in water content, like fruits and veggies, also use cool water to wash your face and body daily. In addition, use a humidifier in your room while you study, sleep, or just hang out. Also incorporate skincare products that are hydrating.

Remember, the overall state of your health shows up on your skin. Whether caring for your skin has always been a struggle, or you just want to put your best face forward in 2022, there’s no better time for making resolutions than the beginning of the New Year. Revamp your old skincare routine for healthy, glowing skin and a clear, radiant complexion all year with these simple, yet effective, resolutions to help you leave your skincare woes behind.
